You Kill Your Progress When You Need Motivation on the Hard Days

You Kill Your Progress When You Need Motivation on the Hard Days | The Black Coffee Club™

Everybody feels motivated on the good days.
The question is...
Who are you on the hard days?

In this episode of The Black Coffee Club™, JuniorTheTruth™ explores why so many people lose momentum—not because life gets difficult, but because they require motivation before they'll continue moving.
Hard days don't destroy progress.

They expose whether your life is built on emotions or on standards.

This conversation explores:
• Why emotional regulation is the foundation of self-leadership
• The difference between emotional awareness and emotional obedience
• Why comfort quietly sabotages commitment
• How personal standards protect your progress
• Why consistency matters more than intensity
• How ordinary days build extraordinary lives

Because here's the truth:
Hard days don't kill your progress because they're hard.
They kill your progress when you keep requiring motivation instead of practicing emotional regulation, commitment, and consistency.

I know that you know we're in a we're in a A lot of us are in our season right now, and we're in a season of difficulty. It might be difficulty, might be chaos, might be a lot of moving parts. You understand what I'm saying. It might be heavy, it might be just obstacles. You understand what I'm saying, obstacles. You gotta turn your turn your stuff up, turn your stuff up, King Vonnie. Yeah, you gotta turn you got your volume down to something, bro or you got me on mute. But anyway, man, let's going to get to a man. Salute to you the top of the day, man, grab your coffee of you or your favorite morning beverage, and I just want to ask you something. What happens to your standards when you have a bad day? What happens to your standards when you have. A bad day? Yeah, what happens? Salute to the dirt game boss in the building. What's up? What you brought? Salute to you, Sue the King Vonnie for sliding through? Man salute? What happens to your standards when you have a bad day, not a not a great day, not the day when you're energized. Not the day when everything is going your way. I'm talking about that day, that day when you're exhausted, the day when you're frustrated, the day when you disappointed, when you discourage, the day that absolutely nothing seems to be working. What happens then? What happens then? Because that's the day, that day, that's the day that tells the truth. Yeah, that's the day that tells the truth. Dirt Game says, shaking my head. I'll be like, man, fuck them standards. Where the smoke at? Who you telling? Who you telling? You know what you feel me? I got to give it up. Yeah, I got to get to I got. To give it up. If we're gonna tell the truth, let's tell it. I got to give it up. That's the day where I say, nah, I'm finna get I'm finna get fucked up like I'm feeling. I'm feeling. I'm feeling. I need a drink, Yeah, I need a drink. Here's my verdict for the day. You don't lose progress because hard days happen. You don't lose progress because hard days happen. You lose progress because you stop leading yourself when they do, you stop lee in yourself when you do, let me stop saying you, and let me say we. We don't lose progress because hard days happen. We lose progress because we stop leading ourselves when they do. You feel me. Most people blame the hard day. Most people blame the hard day. I try not to. The hard day simply exposes what's already there. You feel me. The hard day simply exposes what's already there. And like we said yesterday and saluted my sister another the grade she took it and really truly uh echoed it. You feel me via social media. What's what comes out you has to be in you. You understand what I'm saying. It can't come out you unless it ain't unless it's in you. Hard days, hard moments, hard times, hard situations actually bring that out. They simply expose what's already there. It reveals whether your life is built on standards or if it's built on feelings. So that's why I say, the hard day isn't the problem. The hard day reveals the problem. The hard day itself is not the problem. The hard day actually reveals the problem. Anybody can be disciplined when when. The shit feels good. Anybody can be disciplined when life feels good. But the mastering of yourself actually begins, like the real, true to life mastering of yourself actually begins when it doesn't. Let's get it one. So I'm hustled harder than the moment. I'm a feast on these streets. Got a revolver I told for these niggas trying to take me off the block where I points up daily, Dailey's out. The bottle is smoke. Yes, indeed, yes, indeed, one time for the fun time, man, the most intention of morning circle on the planet. Salute to you all. Man, I thank y'all so much. If I had a million tons, I could not possibly tell it all. Let's get to work, man, Let's talk about emotions. Because emotions aren't bad. Emotions aren't bad. I get a lot of shit because y'all think I'm telling you that emotions aren't bad. Saluting my sister Nolla the Great. Emotions aren't bad, dirt game, emotions aren't bad. Thrive and glow with Joe. They not bad. God gave us emotions. You feel me, God, the Creator, the Great Spirit gave us emotions. They matter, They're valuable. They tell us something. You understand what I'm saying. But somewhere along the way, and I'm gonna stay in this vein with you all because all I see is a bunch of people running around life being emotional. You feel me not even being emotional. That's that's not right. Let me not say that. But they've promoted their emotions. We've promoted our emotions to CEO. We started believing that every feeling deserves a vote. Every feeling has say, so, every feeling gets to make the final decision. You feel me, Think about think about your life in the periods of your life. Think about the pockets of your life where you've allowed your decisions to get the final vote. I was gonna do that, but I just don't feel like it, you feel me. I was gonna apologize, but fuck that. I was gonna go read, but I forget it. I don't feel like it. Yeah, we started believing that every feeling deserves the final vote. I'm tired, I'm stressed, I'm overwhelmed. I just don't feel like it, and suddenly nothing gets done. Family, your emotions are a signal to command you feel me, They are a signal. Your emotions are a single a signal. Excuse me, they are not a command. Your emotions deserve to be acknowledged, you feel me. Your emotions deserve to be acknowledged. They do not deserve to make your decisions though, y'all, y'all, because the truth of the matter is, if your feelings can shut down your behavior, then your discipline isn't mature yet. Does that make sense? Your feelings can shut down your behavior. Remember when we was raising them kids, y'all. Remember when we was raising them kids, y'all. Remember when them babies had tantrums. Remember when the babies just overcome with emotions and they start having tantrums and. Then they just what they do. They just sit down on the ground or throw themselves on the ground. If your feelings can shut down your behavior, then your discipline isn't mature yet. And you know y'all beat on them when they did that. You feel me. But then you have your own internal tantrums and you allow your behavior to shut down your feelings. You feel me, You bullshit motherfucker you. But anyway, if your feelings can shut down your behavior, then your discipline isure is immature yet. And here's what emotionally mature people understand they feel the weight of the day without surrendering leadership to it. Understand what I'm saying. They feel the weight of the day without surrendering leadership to it. That's emotional regulation. Not pretending that every day is okay, not pretending that every day is is just the greatest and so on and so forth. Yeah, not denying that you're tired, but simply refusing to let today's emotion emotions cancel tomorrow's future. Like I absolutely refuse to allow what I'm feeling today to cancel tomorrow. Sover with. You understand what I'm saying, It is absolutely over with, Because I like, I share all the time, and I always come back to this. We have an expiration date. You feel me like there is a date of expiration your life, like your life, everybody, all of us are we have an expiration date. So we have today, then we have our expiration day. Of course we got yesterday, but we got today, and we have our expiration date. And the majority of all of us do not know when our expiration date is. But the mere fact that you know that there's an expiration date, and you know that every day you live, you move closer to the expiration date. For me, what that says to me is I don't have time to waste, so I cannot allow today's emotions to cancel tomorrow's future or to impact tomorrow negatively. I can't do it, dirt game, It's over with. You feel me like I am absolutely unable to do it because i know that I have an expiration date and I'm not trying to waste a moment because I know that date is coming, and every moment that I live, I. Move closer to that date. Because do you understand the shit that I'm trying to accomplish before I get done? Royal constrictor salute to you, hommy. Yeah, so don't deny that you're tired, but you simply have to refuse to let that emotion cancel tomorrow's future. Yeah. Now let's talk about comfort. Yeah, comfort is not evil. I got it strict. I've been getting the messages and I've been having the conversations with you'all family. Comfort isn't evil. I know I vilify comfort. I vilify comfort because we've been saturated in it. But that's a whole nother conversation. And I believe that comfort will negatively impact your ability and willingness to actually grow. But that's beside the point. Comfort is not evil. Comfort has its place. Rest matters, recovery matters. But comfort makes a terrible boss. Did you hear what I said? Comfort makes a terrible ceo because comfort is always negotiating. It whispers you've worked hard enough, gone to skip today, You deserve a break, start again on Monday. Less it sound familiar? Comfort always ask can we make this easier? How do we make this easier? You feel me? And commitment asks you something totally completely different. Commitment says, what did we say we were gonna do? That's what commitment asks. Once again, comfort says, how can we make this easier? You feel me? How can we make this easier? And I ain't gonna lie to you. I can't. I'm all about efficiency and doing stuff efficiently, but I'm also about doing the shit right big dads. Some of the shit big dads works with his hands, Like big dads will build you a house from the rooter to the tutor. Big dads some shit in life, Bro, you just can't get around the work. You understand what I'm saying, How can we make this? You know? Motherfuckers say man? We gotta work smarter, not harder. Yeah, how can we make this easier? We gotta make the work easier. Yeah, that's cool, but there's some stuff you just can't dance around. You understand what I'm saying. Comfort always asks can we make this easier? Commitment asks you what did we say we were going to do? And that's leadership, that's standards. The standard doesn't disappear because today became difficult. Never, the promise still stands. You understand what I'm saying, and now I need you to hear me carefully. I'm not saying destroy yourself. I'm not saying that. If you destroy yourself, you ain't no good to nobody. You feel me. But I'm saying, don't disappear. If today's workout with sixty minutes, maybe today becomes fifteen instead of sixty. If today's writing goal it was two thousand words, maybe today becomes two hundred. Scale it down, don't shut it down, scale it down, don't shut it down. You feel me around here. We don't believe in all or nothing. And that's a that's a man, I'm telling you like, that's a me. That's a me thing. That's my mentality. That's one of the biggest mentalities that I have to challenge on a daily basis with myself. It's all or nothing. I don't I'm not a lukewarm person. You feel me, But I always end up in a bad space with that mindset when I apply it to everything. What I believe in is I don't believe in all or nothing. I believe in always something, never nothing, always something, never nothing. Because every time you honor the standard, even in a smaller way, you strengthen your identity. You understand what I'm saying, always something, never nothing. When it comes to your standard, always something, never nothing, always something, never nothing. I think that might be a bar. Always when it comes to your standard, always something, never nothing. Yeah yeah, Big Dare said, is my work not easy? Faun? That's why I get the call. Uh. I don't back down from a challenge. Uh huh. Be about a farce. Said, I'm gonna be here until I'm one hundred and thirty two years old. He said, I'm gonna live for hev all right, dig this man, man, we about to go deep, and we're about to go deeper. And then I got to get out of here. But here's here's where people misunderstand consistency. They think consistency means perfection. You feel me, I said, they we you, I us, we believe that and we tend to believe that a consistency means perfection. No, you know what consistency means. You want me to help. Let me help y'all on this trouble man Tuesday. Let me help you motherfuckers. You know what consistency means. I just got one word fuck nah man, y'all in the chat, Salute to everybody. And if y'all tell me give me one word that you that you believe consistency means, give me one word for consistency. Y'all stop ducking me. You better than not duck me. Fun, don't duck my question. Give me one word to describe or define consistency. Yeah, y'all be don't do this. Is we are talking, understand what I'm saying. I'll be trying to leave me. Y'all be trying to y'all be commenting, and people motherfuckers be dropping out to keep from comment. Y'all get an unnerved when we have a real conversation. And I ask you because I don't want to just sit up here and just talk at you. I need an action you feel me. Give me one. I say, consistency. Give me the one word. Joe says persistence. Thank you. Joe says persistence. Dirt Gang said, Family King, Vonnie said showing up. All of them are right, yeah, Big Dad said trust Yeah. Ab said grind Yo, there we go. Now we're working with it. Now, we're working with it. When I say consistency, consistency because we think consistency means perfection, and I'm telling you it don't. When we say consistency, all consistency means is rhythm. Ay maen, shit, Now, let's the grace said perseverance. It's all all of y'all right, all of y'all right. It means rhythm. Rhythm. Consistency is a mother fucking rhythm. You get in your rhythm, you know in your life when y'all call it being in your bag or you know when you in your pocket. You know when you are when you are consistently showing up. You know when you are when it's when you're in that space of perseverance. You know you are in when you're in that space of grind, when you're in that space of trust, when you're showing up. You feel me when you in that, when. You're in that persistent space, it's a rhythm. It's like a rhythm that takes over your body, like it's a rhythm that takes over your life. Joe, when you showing up and you are at the gym, you in the rhythm when you when you when you don't understand what was that. It was like March and you and you made the video from the gym and the gym was empty. I screamed, you're in that rhythm, Nella when you show up and you on the track walking you in the Yeah, I gotta get my at least my three miles today and then you you, you know you got to you got the challenge with the homie duncest salute duncin man salute to the homie dunct and I alt to clipped this and posted on social media, salute the Duncin Dunctin is one of the most. That's one of the most. That motherfucker is is a genius. He a genius. He is a genius and he is man salute the duncecon. I'mna stop there, and yeah, I'm gonna stop there. But anyway, you talking about, you know the challenge that you got, you know what I mean? And nah, that's that's it's a rhythm. You feel me. Are you in a challenge where you it's infectious and you and you locked in with your people and it's a rhythm. Your life is a rhythm. Y'all, getting y'all ass up and getting on here to the Black Coffee Club every morning before we get off into the bullshit that the world is serving us up. It is a rhythm. It is a rhythm. That's what consistency is. Consistency means rhythm. Saluting my big brother, Stormy, be man in the building. Man, he says, like when you consistently are on my feed each morning with fortifying content to challenge my intellectual capacities for growth, Yes, sir, and I'm challenging myself and I'm challenging us, bro. And we get and we get, we get better. I gotta call you. I'm gonna call you today. I gotta call you. I didn't get a chance to call into the show and Sunday because I was moving around. I gotta call you. I got I need. We gotta ask some conversations. You feel me. Consistency means rhythm, It's rhythmic. It means refusing to let one bad day become a broken life. You understand what I'm saying. You know how have you y'all, Stormy, you didn't been around, Bro. You understand what I'm saying. Dads, we didn't been around. You know how you allow motherfuckers. I've been in that space where I've allowed one bad day to impact a tremendous portion of my life. Yeah, it means refusing. Consistency means refusing to let one bad day become a broken life. The people we admire aren't great because they had ordinary weeks. You feel me. They're great because they perfected or excuse me, excuse me. They are not. The people that we admire aren't great because they had extraordinary weeks. We don't they had extraordinary weeks. We don't admire them because of that. They're great because they protected their ordinary days, their ordinary days. Think about it. Nobody becomes healthy because of one workout. Nobody builds a business because of one good meeting. Nobody becomes trustworthy because they kept one promise. Identity is built through repetition, and repetition doesn't doesn't happen on easy days. Your repetition doesn't happen on easy days, you feel me. It happens on average days, on average days, on frustrating days, on inconvenient days. I remember one day my baby was in kindergarten. My big baby was in kindergarten. Y'all listen to me. My big baby was in kindergarten, and one of the things that I was hell bent on was showing up for my baby Hell's sleep or snow, no matter what. She was in kindergarten. It might have been first grade, they had a trip to the zoo. It was a summer trip or you know, the end of the year trip. So it was one of those one of those years where it started being one hundred degrees in may you feel me? So it was a very very hot day. I happened to have a presentation at work and I was in I had a presentation in Cincinnati, and they had they had a the. Zoo trip was to the Columbus Zoo. That's that's two hours give a tape, right, And so I had to hot foot it from literally from the presentation to get to the zoo. So I drove from my presentation all the way to the zoo to be there for my baby. So by the time I get there, the first thing that they were gonna do then when they got to the zoo was to sit down and eat, you feel me? So they sit down and eat. I get there. Finally they're already in the zoo and they're sitting down and I walk in and I have on my three piece suit in one hundred degree weather because I went and I ran from the presentation to the to the zoo and I grabbed my gym shoes and I ran in the zoo with my gym shoes in my hand and had my shoes. I ended up rinting a locker and putting my shoes in the locker and putting on my gym shoes and running around the zoo in my shirt and tie, and I ended up taking my jacket off. But I gave my baby my word, and people are looking at it like wow, you know, so on and so forth. But if you ask my baby to this day, the thing that my baby will say is that that motherfucker is gonna show up. You understand what I'm saying. He's going to show up no matter where she's at in this world. I'm going She's calling me right now, my big bad right on time, my big baby calling me right now. Hey, what's up? What's up? Baby? All right? Uh h? I think I lost her? Here she go again. Hold on, y'all. I'm sorry. Hey, hey baby, what's up with it? I'm fine, I'm on my show. Hey, listen, have a have a good day at work. You're heading out the door, yes, sir, Well I'm in the car now, okay, okay, listen, listen, listen. I was just telling the story, and it's funny that you call I was literally just talking about you. Girl. Listen to me. Do you remember that day y'all had that zoo trip and I came in that three piece suit. Hey, I was literally just telling that story because I'm talking about consistency. You. What did you think when I walked in that door and I had that damn suit on? Man, I don't remember exactly what I thought. I was excited that. Yeah, yeah, all right, all right, right, don't be talking to me and driving this shit. I was just telling that story though, But that was it. That was it. That was it. But you have a powerful day, beautiful, and then I'm gonna text you later on. All right, all right, but I'll love you too, hey, man, say, man, that's crazy, man, that's how man. That's how the creative be dealing with me. Man, Like, y'all don't understand. I'm one of God's favorite people. Man. I love y'all to death, but I'm one of God's favorite people. Man. That's how the creator be dealing with me. I'm sitting here talking about my baby and she just called me to get y'all be cause y'all think I. Just be talking. You feel me? They God just be talking. Yeah, big dad said, I drove from North Mint, from New Orleans to Memphis to see my big baby violin solo and got there right on time for her parts. You feel me. Consistency is rhythm, man, It's rhythm, yeah, And identity is built through repetition, and repetition doesn't happen on easy days. It happens on average days. There is. It wasn't convenient to drive from North from New Orleans to Memphis just to see the violin solo, and that was the only thing. The only reason you went was to see her play the violin. You understand what I'm saying, Nah, Man, It happens on average days, on frustrating days, on inconvenient days. Man, I was hot as fuck running around that zoo one hundred degree weather in a suit. But this time I want you to remember, Consistency isn't what you do when life is easy. Consistency is what survives when life isn't. And that's why motivation is optional. Rhythm isn't Your future isn't waiting on another burst of inspiration. It's waiting on another ordinary day where you simply keep your motherfucking word. Your future isn't waiting on another burst of inspiration. It's waiting on another ordinary day where you simply keep your word to yourself. He said, consistency are the reps for building the life. You say you won't on my soul swooping my brother the guy in the building. Yeah, your future isn't waiting for another burst of inspiration. The guy is my baby with the guy and the God. That's it. That's her. That's her godfather. That's the godfather, the godfather, the guy that's my baby's godfather. Yeah. He was trying to pull me into a conversation about her yesterday, like man, you know, talking about it, but I'm still too emotional about it, so I avoided the conversation. I was all right, bro, I gotta go. Yeah, man, I'm I'm man. Anyway, let me say this, let's close this out. Listen to me. Man, if it ain't here already, you understand what I'm saying. The Dirt Game said, it's an emotional time, big bro. My daughter is starting college next month. Man, that's on my soul. It is emotional. Man. Yeah, is she going local or is she going Is she going away? I need to hit you up. Is she going local or she going away? To god laughing, Yeah, he's trying to talk like man, I'm just so proud of her, man. And you know, I told her to call me if she need anything, and she never called me. If you ain't already in it or already or coming out of it, your hard day is coming. It might be today, it might be tomorrow, might be next week. Don't fear the hard day. Prepare for it because the hard day is not trying to destroy you. It's trying to introduce you to yourself. Did you hear what I said? The hard day is not here to destroy you. It is trying to introduce you to yourself. Who are you when nobody's cheering? Who are you when the excitement is gone? Who are you when the results have not shown up yet? Because that's the version of you that's building your future. And here's today's challenge. Stop asking how do I stay motivated? I just got asked that. Motherfucker's like, man, you working, bro? How you stay motivated? It's offensive to me? Man, Yeah yeah, stop asking Stop asking that. Stop asking how do I stay motivated? Start asking what does my standard require today? What does the standard require today? Then honor it, even if it's small, even if it's imperfect, even if it's difficult. Because one hard day handled well will change your identity. One hard day handled well will change your identity. You understand what I'm saying. One hard day honored it strengthens your character. One hard day survived builds your momento. And y'all remember this. Hard days don't kill progress because they're hard. They kill progress when you keep requiring motivation instead of practicing emotional regulation, commitment, and consistency. The people who become extraordinary aren't the people who avoid difficult days. They're the people who refuse to abandon themselves. During them. They're the people who refuse to abandon themselves during those days. That's self leadership, that's you feel me. That's exactly why around here we don't chase motivation. We honor standards. You feel me, We keep our promises. We build lives that can withstand hard days. When you having a hard day, you bring your punk ass in here, You drag yourself in here, you keep coming in here, you keep coming in here. Yeah, we build lives that with staying hard days, because hard days don't define us, man, they reveal who the fuck we are.
