Struggling to focus, constantly feeling distracted, and dealing with mental overload often comes from poor scheduling—not lack of discipline. A Focus-First schedule protects your attention, energy, and execution.
Most people don’t have a focus problem.
They have a structure problem.
Their day is reactive. Their priorities are unclear. Their attention is scattered across interruptions, notifications, and low-value tasks before meaningful work even begins.
In this episode of The Black Coffee Club™, we break down why your schedule may be destroying your focus and how to rebuild your day around deep work, intentional scheduling, distraction control, and recovery rhythm.
Because here’s the truth:
Your schedule is either protecting your focus… Or feeding your distractions.
We’ll talk about:
✔ Why priority-first scheduling matters ✔ How deep-work blocks improve execution ✔ Why distractions need their own container ✔ How recovery rhythm protects mental sharpness
If you feel busy but not productive, mentally scattered, or unable to stay focused long enough to finish important work…
This conversation will help you build a schedule that supports clarity instead of chaos.

If you can sit still for a minute before you start your day and you start getting pulled in all the different directions like we do on each and every single day, I want you to just jump in here with me, man, and walk with me, because we're talking about focus. Talking about focus. Yeah, the theme of the day. Like if this is people's playhouse, I tell you, scream real loud every time you hear focus, scream real loud. Focus. Oh, we're talking about focus and more specifically, why not so many people? Why you? Why you feel like you can't hold on to it? Once again, people say distracted, I can't lock in, I'm overwhelmed. But here's the truth. Your schedule is destroying your focus. Not your intentions, not your goals, not your intelligence. Your schedule So let me be clear. When I say your schedule, I mean the schedule that you've created and curated, or in many other. Cases, your lack thereof. You feel me your lack thereof, So your schedule that you've actually curated and put together and you know you're facilitating or lack thereof because you understand that your lack of a schedule is indeed a schedule. You feel me your lack of a schedule is indeed a schedule. So people say I'm distracted, i can't locked in, I'm overwhelmed. But the truth is your schedule is destroying your focus. Not your intentions, not your goals, not your intelligence. It's your schedule because you build your schedule around reactivity, availability, urgency. That's what you build your schedule around. You build your schedule around. Reactivity, availability and urgency instead of building your schedule around your focus. Man, thank y'all for coming out. Man, No, I'm just hey, you're gonna get don't be shocked. When I wrote the credits one day on y'all Early, you feel me Early Early, I'm roll the credits early. You build your schedule around reactivity, availability and urgency, urgency instead of building it around focus. And when your schedule is reactive. When your schedule is reactive, reactive, reactive, reactive, reactive. When your schedule is reactive, your mind becomes reactive to let's get it. One. So I've hustled harder than the moment. I'm a feast on these streets. Got a revolver I told for these niggas. Try to take me off the block where I posted up daily sit Dailey's out the bottles smoke. Indeed, one time for the most intention of morning circle on the planet, man, one time, Man, I really appreciate y'all. Man, if I had a million tongues, I couldn't tell it all. You know, if y'all y'all actually know we're doing a new thing. And so I really truly appreciate you all. I really truly appreciate your patience. I really trulyiate your support. So let's get to it. So let's let's just let's just get to it, man, Let's start here. Most people wake up and immediately surrender their attention, period, point blank. Ind the discussion. We wake up. Most people, I did it again. You wake up and immediately surrender your attention. Notifications, messages, emails, random tasks, random tasks, and then before you can even decide what matters, your day is already fragmented. It's already fragmented. That's the problem. It's already broken up before you can even decide what actually matters. Yeah, that's the problem. You're letting the noise choose your priorities. You are letting your noise choose the priorities. So the the Dirt Game Boss in the building. What's up with you, hommy salute to you, boxing and barbecue. What's going on with it? Man? Salute? He said, got your ass sliding in in early salute family, top of the day to you, bro. I appreciate you catching catching up with me. Thank you, my brother, Dirt Game boss Man aka hashtag thought Master, he said, hit the light button, share and subscribe. Please, yes, indeed please, I'm coming in here just tittling around. You feel me come in here with some intention because this is indeed the most intentional bring in circle on the planet. So you got to come in here and. Be attention intention yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. So we in the mornings, man, we get up, we immediately surrender our attention for our sniper. I see in a building. What's up with a snipe? Yeah, and then our day is already fragmented. Before we can even decide what matters on the day, The day is already fragmented. And that's the problem. You're letting it noise control your priorities. You feel me, We think about how we live. We live by. The creed that the squeaky oil gets the grease, like that is a way that we live. We live by that creed, We model that creed. The squeaky oil gets the grease. Make enough noise, The squeaky oil gets the grease. Excuse me, the squeaky wheell gets the grease, or squeaky whell gets the oil. Whichever one of these, y'all know what the hell I'm saying. The squeaky wheel gets the oil, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. That's how we live. That's how we live our life. That's how we live our life. Salutor King Vonnie in the building, what's up with you, bro? The squeaky wheel gets the oil. You're letting noise choose your priorities. Priorities are chosen by the noise. Saluting my brother Joe Towns in the building. That's that West Coast. You feel me. It's that's that West Coast. It's life. It's like foe. Yeah, yeah, it's like four fifty six in the East Coast. Salute to Joe Towns Bro. You must be on your way to gym or something now, why shout out to everybody catching the live stream man. Salute to the replay game. Replay game, what's up with you? Salute to your family, and shout out to the podcast family. Mean lie for Melia, hashtag Junior Mafia, my first love. Thank you all so much. But no matter how you are, are consuming the content right now, I need you to do something for me. I need you to do something. I need y'all to drop the coffee emoji. Give me that coffee cup of moji. Please, for the most intention of more than something on the planet, give me that coffee cup of moji. Man, let's rock, Let's rock. You're letting the noise. Choose your priorities. A focus first, focused first, A focused first, A focused first. Schedule works differently. Black Man of Focus first, Brothers of Focus first, Focused first schedule, it works different sisters. Focus first, it hits, it works, it hits differently. The most important work comes first, not last, not if there's time first, because your best energy exists early. Your best energy in your day exists early before the interruption is multiplied, before the fatigue builds, before we get that we hit that mid day drop off. You understand what I'm saying. We hit that mid day drop off. Some of us it is a mid day crash, depending on how we're resting. You feel me, before your day gets loud, before your day gets loud, y'all, your best energy exists early. So when you think about it, or let me ask what gets your best attention right now? Like right now? What gets your best attention? Is it your goals or your distractions? You feel me? Is it your goals or your distractions? Because my distractions get my best attention right now, Like my distractions literally get my best attention right now. I'm not bullshitting, And you got. To ask yourself, well, you got to answer what gets your best attention right now? Is it your goals or is it your distractions? And I mean like literally no, I want you to put in the chat. I want you to put in the chat, replay game podcast family, I want you to put it in the comments section because I want you to. Look at it. You feel me. What gets your best attention right now? Yeah, your best attention right now? Is it your goals or your distractions. I see some goals, I see some goals. I see some goals. I'm proud of y'all. For me, it's my distractions right now. My distractions get my best attention. Yeah, my distractions get my best tension. But the fact of the matter is now, don't want you to lose sight of this, because what gets your first energy usually controls your day. Whatever gets your first energy usually controls your day. Which is why for me, I have to be intentional with waking up in the right frame of mind. You understand what I'm saying, because if I'm spassing out about something, if I'm stressing about something, if I'm tripping about something, if I'm upset about something, if if that's what gets my first mind, if that's what gets my first energy in the morning, then that's usually what's gonna control my day. You never even thought about that. If you wake up and you fixate on something when you wake up, that's usually what's gonna control your day. You never thought about it that way. Salute the thrive and glow with Joe, what's up with you Joe two two five box? And what's up with your homie? I see, y'ah whatever. Usually what gets your first mind in the morning is what control your day. Mm hmm. One of the things that I have to work on is as I'm building and as I'm moving through this thing, I'm really bad about checking analytics. You feel me, I've check analytics. I stay checking the analytics now because we're building and we're heading somewhere, and a lot of times that gives my first energy in the morning. Well, if that gets my first energy in the morning to guess what, then that controls my day because I'm thinking, I'm multitask and I can take this time, go sitting on the toilet, check my analytics, do this, do that. But no, no, no, no, no, no, no no no no. That first part of my day has to be for connection, has to be for ground, that has to be for center and myself, and then the early part gets the most important priorities. Get the early part, all right, let's keep it moving. So let's talk about deep work, because this is where the real progress happens, not multitasking, not reacting, not not checking five things at once, deep work, deep work, protected focus, one task, writing, you feel me? Can you be whole? Salute? Family? He said, go Nicks, you already know what's happening. Hon you already know what's happening. Huh, Go New York, New York, Do New York? Do you already know what's happening? Family, Go New York, Go New York. Goat hey man, but listen, all right, mother fault y'all? Sorry, apologies. The deep work, protected focus, one task, one direction, no interruptions. Here's the truth. Focus grows when attention stops switching. Your focus grows, and it's like a snowball effect. Your focused snowballs when you stop switching, when you stop switching, stop switching. But the truth is, in twenty twenty six, you never stay with one thing long enough to build momental And that's on me. And we wonder why we're stuck. We wonder why we're scrambled, We wonder why we're not building what we need to build. It's because you never stay your ass with one thing long enough to build the necessary momentum. We restart mentally all day. We keep restarting, We keep restarting. You working on something. You go check a message, Now you gotta restart. You working on something, You switch tabs, Now you gotta restart. You feel me. You working on something, you pull off and check social media, you get a phone call, somebody walks in and starts talking to you. You have to restart. You have to restart. If you think about it from a track and Fields perspective, when you get in the blocks and you start, you know that first, that's a start. Now, imagine if the track and field people had to move the block all the way up, if it's a hundred and they had to move the block every ten yards. You feel me because they got ten restarts. They not ever gonna get that shit you how long that'll take. It's the same thing with your mind. I know you never thought about it like that. You feel me because you ain't this cold now, I'm just playing because people don't look at. It that way. People don't look at it like that. But your focus grows when your attention stops switching and you stop restarting mentally all day, check your messages, switching tabs, responding to introductions, I mean interruptions. You feel me, every energy shift, every excuse me, every restart, like every time you have to switch. That cost energy, a B. What's up with you, little bro? That cost energy? And that's why shallow work feels so exhausting, not because the work is hard, but because your brain keeps resetting the focus first schedules, the focus first schedule hecks deep work early before the world starts starts reaching for you. Yeah, mommy, mommy, mommy, mommy, daddy, daddy, daddy, honey, honey, honey. Yeah, baby, baby baby. Yeah. So here's something most people never do. We gotta keep, we gotta keep, we gotta keep it moving. Here's something most people never do. Most people never separate distractions from priorities. Let me stop that, Felix neon at Junior, what's up with. You, homie? Your ass? Not most people. You never separate distractions from priorities. Everything happens together. Emails mixed with important work work emails mixed with personal emails, and mixed messages or messages mixed with thinking time, notifications mixed with execution time. That destroys your focus. That destroys your focus. Here's the key. Reactive work should not control productive hours. You need a system. This is all laid out for you in the Simple Truth Minute Manual system. The Simple Truth Minute Manual one hour book that will watch that will change the way you watch the clock, written by Yours truly Junior The Truth, as well as the Simple Truth Minute Manual Personal Planner which includes the Self Mastery Blueprint. They're both available www. Dot theeminiemanual dot com. Everybody that has the system and has been working a system, y'all tell me I'm y'all tell me I'm lying. Y'all tell me I'm lying. You feel me, y'all tell me I'm lying? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. You have to separate these things. Reactive work should not control productive hours. That means your emails get a window. Calls get a windw at men a straightive work at men, at men tasks, they get a window. Distractions get contained, not eliminated completely, but they get contained. They get controlled. You feel me. So like I have a window for me, Like I have a window while I do my outreach, our return messages, our return calls, our return text messages. You feel me. I'm listening to voicemails, so on, I'm responding to emails, but that's within a window. You feel me at your job that shit has to be within a window or you're not ever gonna be productive. But anyway, those distractions are not eliminated, they're just controlled because when distractions stay open all day, your attention stays fragmented all day, and fragmented attention produces weak execution. I think that's a bar, your fragmented attention. It produces weak execution, or you're not gonna secute it all. So let's talk about the ship that people overlook, and that is recovery. When we're talking about producing and executing, we don't really talk about recovery because a focus first, a focus first schedule isn't about grinding NonStop. That's not sustainable, that won't hold up. Focus needs recovery to stay sharp. You feel me sometimes I feel like I'm I'm I'm I'm getting loopy and I'm tired because I've been really at it. I've been hitting it real hard. You feel me, and I gotta stop. Yeah, that's wild, the kid, I'm gonna do it for you, that's wild, that's wild. I gotta stop. You feel me, Sisters, I apologize, that's that's wild, but I meant it. I've been hitting it real hard. And then I gotta stop because I gotta recovery. Recovery focus needs recovery to stay sharp. Short breaks, taking a mental reset, walking away for a moment, breathing, and getting into a space where you can reset your attention. That matters. That matters because burned out focus becomes sloppy focused, and sloppy focus creates some mistakes. And the goal isn't constant pressure. The goal is not constant pressure. The goal is sustained clarity. You feel me. You know how cold you are when you're operating from a place of clarity. That's why you hear you're here, because you're operating from a place of clarity. You're like, nah, I. Gotta get this this self mastery shit, I gotta get this, and I gotta get this on the early side. So if brug going, if Brugg going our early, guess what I'm in here, our early We're gonna get to this and we're gonna get in and out like a robbery. Sustain clarity. And that's why a recovery rhythm matters, not laziness rhythm. Recovery rhythm. What is your recovery rhythm? No, you ain't never thought about it because you ain't never been around, no top flight nigga. Now I'm just playing. I'm really serious. So let's build this focus. First schedule real quick. I'm gonna give you a We're gonna get this practically, and then I gotta get out of here. Step one, you start with one priority, not five. One major focus, right. You start with one major focus and you place it first. Number two, you protect a deep work block sixty to ninety minutes minimum. Sixty to ninety minutes minimum. So we're gonna say a sixty minute minimum in your day, a work block, no interruptions, no multitasking, singular focus, zero d in focus on that one priority. Step three, schedule your distractions separately. To quick quick, what's up with you? Love? Schedule your distractions separately, your messages, your emails, your calls, your admin work that should be in a block if you if that block is not open, silence your phone, remove your phone, go put it in a zip block bag and take it and put it in the freezer file. I care. I don't give a damn. Schedule your distractions separately. That includes emails, that includes messages, that includes calls, that includes admin work you feel me, That includes admin work, you give them a controlled window. Number four is you have to add a recovery rhythm. What is your recovery rhythm? Small reset periods. I told y'all I used the Pomadoro clock. I said, I was gonna bring you down here because I need it so I can stop on time. Because my goal is to get this in in twenty five minutes. I'm at twenty six minutes and fifty one seconds. Bet, I don't kiss thirty. So you have to have your small resets. I usually take like i'll work for an hour, I'll take me by a twenty twenty five minute reset. You feel me. Add your recovery rhythm. I get up, walk around, breathe. Sometimes I'll call my accountability partner, say, t FE, what's up with at hommy? Man, it's wild over here. Small reset periods. You need those throughout your day. Royal constrictor what's up with it? Family? He said, thanks, family, I'll receive my order from the Black Jig Grooming Company. Hey man, I appreciate you, bro, I really truly appreciate the support. Family. Thank you. Add your recovery rhythm, small reset periods, protect your mental focus. All of this is laid out in your system. You need a system www dot domnimanual dot com. Man this is indeed your productivity system. You need a productivity system. This includes the book and indeed the planner. All right, all right, all right, all right, all right, and everybody saying where the package? You gotta package you you, I got you. I'll put the package together today for y'all. All right, let's get out of here. It got two minutes before we close. The kids starting. Let's close this out because this matters more than you realize. Your schedule is not just organizing your time system wise, it's training your mind. Your schedule trains your mind. I know a lot of people don't think about it like that. Your schedule trains your mind. You're training your attention, You're training your habits. You feel me how actions become, how actions become behaviors in time? You're training your habits. You know we use we use we spell habits with two b's around here. You would know that if you had the system, that's how attention becomes behaviors in time, how actions become behaviors in time. You're training your habits, you're training your focus. And if your day is chaotic, your focus will become chaotic too. That's just how that go. But when your schedule protects your focus, then something changes. Your mind settles, your execution sharpens, your energy stabilizes. And it's not because life got easier. Because your structure got stronger. Brother, you need structure. Your structure got stronger. So here's the question. Does your schedule protect your focus or destroy it? So your schedule will Remember when I said schedule, is the schedule that you curated or lack thereof? You feel me? Yeah, Because at the end of the day, your schedule is either building clarity or feeding distraction. Your schedule is either building clarity or is feeding distraction. Man, this is the Black Coffee Club around here. We don't schedule chaos, We schedule focus. Man. This show is brought to you by the Black Jeneman Grooming Company. We do have a line of all natural, handcrafted grooming products specifically with you in mind, so be sure to come check us out www dot the Blackgit dot com. Man. And you need a system, You need a system, man, be sure be sure to go get your system. Man. Www dot the Miniemaanyo dot com.
