If you are around deadbeats, you’re a deadbeat. If you are around gossips and clowns, you take on that energy. At this stage of life, you cannot afford to let just anybody have access to your space, your time, and your mind.
Over the last several years, I took a hard look at my circle and conducted a full audit. People might call it standoffish, or say you've changed, or claim you think you're better than everyone else. But outside of direct disrespect, other people's opinions of your boundaries are beyond your jurisdiction.
If a relationship lacks reciprocity, it is toxic. If the men around you don't handle their business, provide for their kids, or stand on principle, they don't belong in your perimeter. Stop collecting new friends at 50, protect your energy, and raise your standard.
